However, I've also discussed this issue with several players, as well as a number of people who have expressed an interest in playing but have not yet had the chance. Many of them note character building as one of their favorite parts of the game. I don't think Pathfinder 2nd Edition (as an example) should ignore them. But it also should not cater to them exclusively.

@Theodric the Obscure, that sounds like a very interesting book. I may need to hunt down a copy.LShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15495083228566425216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1849891810204688064.post-85975852264542845892011-10-25T13:17:51.939-07:002011-10-25T13:17:51.939-07:00EGG touches on this in my reading today.EGG touches on this in my reading today.Theodric the Obscurehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18201793290118146978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1849891810204688064.post-60819617124962761512011-10-25T11:30:34.047-07:002011-10-25T11:30:34.047-07:00“Unfortunately, as a player, there’s not a lot mor...“Unfortunately, as a player, there’s not a lot more for me to do. The only thing I have control over is my character.”

Consider, however: How much of this activity can you do without mechanics? Procedures to try/use. NPCs from the backstory. Plans for the future. Keeping a journal. This is all stuff I do no matter what system I’m playing.

Sometimes we even have PC/PC or PC/NPC conversations outside sessions. They might even be by phone, e-mail, text message, Facebook, etc.

There’s no denying that—for some people—playing with mechanics is fun. Be it a GURPS character or a Traveller vehicle. I’m certainly one. It’s not required, however, for players to have fun outside sessions.Roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16733274876782876659noreply@blogger.com
